| ca |
dc.description.abstract | [eng] History has struggled to silence and erase the role of women in the field of medicine. Pressured by the Church, society and barred from access to universities, late medieval women, in spite of everything, worked as doctors, gynecologists, midwives, pharmacists and, in the domestic sphere, prepared remedies for health, care of the body and the sick. In the late Middle Ages, in a world dominated by men and far from the role they were given only to be born, these mothers, women and daughters were orally transmitting their knowledge of folk medicine. Some even wrote medical treatises, and others did so anonymously. Based on previous studies and research, limited to the academic field or limited to specialized publications of history, we will make visible through the study of skeletal human remains, from the surroundings of the church of Sant Miquel de Forès, Castell de Besora and Serrat dels Espinyers the role of women in the care the sick. | - |
