Cine y cambio social: análisis y caracterización del vídeo participativo como objeto documental

Abstract

[spa] El objetivo principal de esta investigación es demostrar que el vídeo participativo posee naturaleza fílmica y que puede ser enmarcado dentro del género documental. Con ello se pretende introducir esta práctica en la Teoría del Cine y abrir esta disciplina a nuevas formas de producción cinematográfica colaborativas y horizontales. Para llevar a cabo dicho objetivo, esta investigación se separa en dos fases diferenciadas. En primer lugar, se sistematizará la taxonomía formulada por el teórico Bill Nichols mediante una metodología cuali-cuantitativa que recurrirá a técnicas como el card sorting, procedentes de la Psicología y de la Arquitectura de la Información. En segundo lugar, revisará las nociones de documental de autores importantes dentro de la Teoría del Cine con el fin de extraer una definición agregada y cotejará la bondad con la que la práctica del vídeo participativo puede ajustarse a dicha definición. Por último, clasificará una muestra de vídeos participativos mediante la taxonomía de Bill Nichols previamente sistematizada con el pretexto de conocer cuáles son las alfabetizaciones fílmicas de las comunidades involucradas en esta práctica.

[eng] The main goal of this research is to demonstrate that Participatory Video has film nature and that it can be framed into the Documentary genre. By doing so, this work seeks to introduce this practice into the Film Studies and open this discipline to new forms of horizontal and collaborative film production. To satisfy this objective, this research splits in two different phases. Firstly, it will systematize the taxonomy formulated by Bill Nichols through a quali-quantitative methodology that will resort to techniques like card sorting, which come from disciplines such as Psychology or Information Arquitecture. Secondly, it will review the notions of Documentary of several important authors within Film Studies field in order to extract an aggregated definition and will check up to which extent Participatory Video can adjust to it. Finally, this work will classify a sample of Participatory Videos through the previously systematized taxonomy under the pretext of knowing which are the film literacies of the communities involved with this practice. This doctoral thesis expects to tackle with the study of Participatory Video under a perspective from which it has not been already explored. It will introduce, as well, novel quantitative methologies into the Film Studies, a field that researches mainly from the heuristic and literary inquiry and the critical review.
